Mentor texts are published works that serve as a good example of the kind of writing you help students produce. If teaching how to write, look for books on crafts, cooking, or other topics. If you teach report writing, look into nonfiction books, journals. Read these books (or part of them) to students. Talk in class about special features you noticed in the book. Make a list of these features (the manual has numbered steps, pictures to match, sequences, etc ).
